How many days do you need for Central and South Vietnam?

Five days is enough for one area: either Da Nang, Hoi An and Ba Na Hills, or Ho Chi Minh City with the Mekong Delta. Seven days lets the south include Phu Quoc, as in our Best of South Vietnam tour. To combine both coasts and add Hue, plan eight to ten days, with one flight between Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Tell us your dates and we will suggest the balance.

When is the best time to visit Central and South Vietnam?

February to April is the easiest window for both: central Vietnam is mostly dry and the south is still in its dry season, which runs from November to April. Central Vietnam is at its best until about August, while Hue and Hoi An can see storms and flooding from September to December. How much does a Central and South Vietnam tour cost?

Prices on this page start at $330 per person for the 5-day itineraries and $620 for the 7-day tour with Phu Quoc. They are based on four travellers in standard hotels and exclude international flights. Because every trip is private, the final price depends on your dates, hotel category and group size: a couple pays more per person than a group of six. How do you travel between Central and South Vietnam?

By air for the long leg: Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City takes about 1 hour 20 minutes, while the road trip is a long full-day drive or more. Within each area you travel by private car with a driver, and the Mekong Delta includes boat rides on the river and canals. Phu Quoc is reached by a short flight from Ho Chi Minh City. Do I need a visa for Vietnam?

It depends on your passport. Travellers from countries such as the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain can enter visa-free for up to 45 days, while US, Canadian and Australian passport holders need an e-visa from the official government portal. Your passport should be valid for six months after your return. Rules change, so confirm your own passport before booking flights, and see our Vietnam visa guide for the steps.

Can I add northern Vietnam or a beach stay to this trip?

Yes. Because every trip is private, you can add Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay in the north, or a few nights on Phu Quoc, and you can start in either end of the country.
