DAY 1 Luang Prabang – Arrival
Arrive in Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of the Lan Xang Kingdom. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the local English-speaking guide and transferred to your hotel.
The rest of the day is free for you to rest or explore the city at your own pace.
In the evening, enjoy a stroll through the Sisavangvong old quarter and discover its typical night bazaar, where you can purchase textiles made by local ethnic minorities.
Overnight at your hotel in Luang Prabang.
This marks the beginning of your 14-day itinerary in Laos with Kampá Tour.
DAY 2 Luang Prabang – City Tour
Early morning wake-up to walk or cycle around the city, observing Laotians making offerings to monks along the roadside.
Return to the hotel for breakfast, followed by a walking tour of the city to explore the four different types of UNESCO-classified architecture:
- Traditional Lao houses made of hardwood or bamboo, built on stilts.
- Half-wood, half-cement houses introduced during the French era.
- French colonial buildings resembling those in Vietnam and Cambodia.
- Old Chinese shops designed for both commercial and residential purposes.
In the afternoon, visit Luang Prabang’s cultural and historical landmarks:
- Wat Sene, the oldest temple in the city.
- Vat Aham, a principal sanctuary dedicated to Lao ancestors.
- Wat Visoun, known for its impressive Sinhalese-style stupa.

Transfer to the train station for a 2-hour journey to Nateuy. Upon arrival, continue to Luang Namtha, the capital of the northwest highlands.

Overnight in Luang Namtha.
DAY 4 Luang Namtha – Muang Sing (2-Hour Drive)
Morning visit to a local market frequented by various ethnic minorities from the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Visit Namtha Stupa, located on a hill offering panoramic views of the town and surrounding mountains.
Continue to nearby villages:
- Ban Nam Ngene, known for its rice alcohol production.
- Bane Thong Poung, a weaving village of the Thai Dam community.
In the afternoon, explore Ban Nam Dee, a Lanten village, where you can learn about traditional village life and see villagers in traditional costumes.
Transfer to Muang Sing, stopping to visit Akha and Thai Lue tribal villages along the way.

DAY 5 Muang Sing and Surroundings
Morning visit to Phonesavanh Market, where local tribes gather to trade goods. Spend the day exploring the minority villages around Muang Sing through guided hikes across gentle hills, rice paddies, and forested paths.
Visit villages such as Ban Don Chai (Tai Lue community) and Ban Pha Kha (Akha community), observing their unique stilted wooden houses and traditional weaving practices.
Return to Muang Sing in the late afternoon.

DAY 6 Muang Sing – Luang Namtha – Houei Xay (6-Hour Drive)
Depart for Houei Xay via Luang Namtha. Along the way, visit ethnic minority villages like Ban Lak Khammai, Ban Kolakham, and Ban Thin That.
Arrive in Houei Xay in the late afternoon.
Overnight in Houei Xay.
DAY 7 Houei Xay – Shompoo Cruise
Transfer to the pier for a slow boat cruise. During the morning, enjoy a brief talk on Lao culture and fun facts.
A traditional Lao lunch will be served onboard.
Stop to visit Ban Kang Lae, a traditional Kamu village. Learn about rural life in this remote area.
Arrive in Pakbeng by nightfall.

DAY 8 Pakbeng – Pak Ou – Luang Prabang
Depart from Pakbeng at 8:00 AM, enjoying the scenic jungle views along the way.
Morning activities include a demonstration of traditional Lao dessert and drink preparation.
Visit Ban Mouang, known for producing Lao whisky. Continue to the Pak Ou Caves, housing over 2,000 Buddha statues.
Arrive in Luang Prabang by 4:30 PM and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 9 Luang Prabang – Kuang Si Waterfalls – Train to Vang Vieng
After breakfast, visit Kuang Si Waterfalls, the largest in the region. Enjoy swimming or explore the nearby Bear Rescue Centre.
In the afternoon, transfer to the train station for the 6:20 PM train to Vang Vieng, arriving at 7:12 PM.

DAY 11 Vientiane – City Tour

DAY 12 Vientiane – Flight to Pakse – Bolaven Plateau Exploration
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Pakse. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and embark on an exploration of the Bolaven Plateau, known for its cool climate, waterfalls, and coffee plantations.
- Visit a tea plantation to learn about traditional tea-making processes.
- Admire the Tad Fan Waterfall, a dramatic twin waterfall plunging into a deep gorge.
- Stop at Tad Yeung Waterfall, where you can take a refreshing swim or relax in the serene surroundings.
Continue to local villages:
- Ban Lak Sipchet, famous for knife-making.
- Ban Lak Samsip, where bamboo basketry is a specialty.
Overnight on the Bolaven Plateau.
DAY 13 Bolaven Plateau – Wat Phou – 4,000 Islands (Don Khong Island)
Begin the day with a visit to Tha Teng Market, where ethnic villagers sell fresh produce and handicrafts.

DAY 14 4,000 Islands Exploration – Pakse – Departure
Spend the morning exploring the 4,000 Islands (Si Phan Don):
- Take a boat ride to Ban Khone Village, where you’ll see remnants of the first Lao railway and French colonial relics.
- Visit Liphi Waterfalls, also called the "Corridor of the Devil," a stunning natural cascade near the Laos-Cambodia border.
Afterward, drive to the magnificent Khone Phapheng Waterfalls, the largest by volume in Southeast Asia and a truly awe-inspiring sight.
Return to Pakse in the late afternoon for your flight or onward travel.

We spent a lot of time on boats, drifting along the rivers and canals. We loved cycling through the quiet palm groves and cruising through the narrow waterways by sampan in Mekong Delta.
