Bus travel to Luang Prabang To get from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, a local bus ride is convenient and economical. Allow between 10 and 13 hours to cover the 340 km. The cost of a one-way ticket ranges from about $22 to $32, depending on the service. You can go to the North Bus Station in Vientiane to buy your ticket and the bus will arrive at the South Bus Station in Luang Prabang. Various bus companies operate this route such as King of Bus, Malany, Naga Travel, PST Transit Service, or Soutchai Travel. You can also ask your hotel to help you book your tickets.

3. When to Visit Luang Prabang?

In Luang Prabang, the two distinct seasons are well marked: the dry season from November to April, and the rainy season from May to October.

Between mid-March and June, temperatures rise, sometimes reaching 40 degrees. The months of November to February are more pleasant in terms of temperatures.

During the rainy season, the waterfalls become particularly picturesque. Although there are showers in the afternoon, the rest of the day is usually sunny, with an average temperature of around 24 degrees, making it a pleasant time to visit Luang Prabang. About 30 minutes to 1 hour from the sourthwest of the city center, there are the most beautiful waterfalls around Luang Prabang: Tad Kuang Si and Tad Sae.

Kuang Si Waterfall is taller and more photogenic with the gorgeous turquoise blue colored water. The falls have 3 levels leading to a final 50 meter drop falling into shallow pools. Surrounded by lush jungle, it really is a favorite swimming spot for tourists and locals alike.

Tad Sae is a natural wonder of Luang Prabang. The falls are not as high as those at Kuang Si, but there are many more jets of water flowing over unique limestone formations.

Also known as "Buddha's Caves", the Pak Ou Caves are home to more than 4000 Buddha statues that have been left behind by devotees from all over for thousands of years.
