7 Must-Try Michelin-Starred Vietnamese Restaurants in 2024

Michelin has just announced the list of Vietnamese restaurants honored in three categories for the year 2024: One Star, Michelin Selected, and Bib Gourmand.

At the Michelin Guide ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on June 27, 2024, Michelin awarded stars in Vietnam for the second time. Seven Vietnamese restaurants received a Michelin star. Four of these restaurants retained their stars from last year: Gia, Hibana By Koki, Tam Vi, and Anan Saigon. The three newly recognized restaurants are Akuna (HCMC), La Maison 1888 (Da Nang), and Le Pavillon Royal (HCMC). Each year, these restaurants undergo a rigorous evaluation process.

The list of Michelin star restaurants in Vietnam in 2024:

1. Ănăn Saigon

Address: 89 Ton That Dam Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Ănăn Saigon blends Vietnamese street food with modern techniques under the guidance of Chef Peter Cuong Franklin.

2. Gia

Address: 61 Van Mieu Street, Van Mieu Ward, Dong Da District, Hanoi, Vietnam

This Hanoi restaurant stands out for its contemporary approach to Vietnamese cuisine, using modern techniques to reinvent traditional recipes.

3. Tam Vi

Address: 4B Yen The Street, Van Mieu Ward, Dong Da District, Hanoi, Vietnam

Located in Hanoi, Tam Vi showcases the essence of traditional Vietnamese cuisine with a selection of dishes from the North, Central, and South, presented in a vintage and authentic atmosphere.

4. Hibana by Koki

Address: Basement 1, Capella, 11 Le Phung Hieu Street, Trang Tien Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, Vietnam

Nestled in the Capella Hotel in Hanoi, this Japanese teppanyaki restaurant delivers exquisite culinary experiences thanks to Chef Hiroshi Yamaguchi and his selection of ingredients imported from Japan.

5. The Royal Pavilion

Address: 22–36 Nguyen Hue Street and 57–69F Dong Khoi Street, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Specializing in Cantonese cuisine, this Ho Chi Minh City restaurant, led by Chef Wong Fu Keung, serves traditional dishes reimagined with a touch of elegance.

6. La Maison 1888

Address: InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, Bai Bac Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang, Vietnam

Located in a luxury resort on the Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang, this restaurant is helmed by Chef Pierre Gagnaire and features a refined fusion of French and Vietnamese cuisines.

7. Akuna

Address: Floor 9, Le Méridien Saigon, 3C Ton Duc Thang Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Located on the ninth floor of Le Méridien Saigon, Akuna offers an innovative fusion menu crafted with local ingredients meticulously curated by Chef Sam Aisbett.

This year, Michelin visited Da Nang for the first time to award stars and recommend restaurants in its guide. Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guide, stated that including Da Nang on the list this year reflects "the enthusiasm and culinary quality across all regions of Vietnam." Nén Danang restaurant achieved a significant milestone as the first and only restaurant in Vietnam to receive a Michelin Green Star, recognizing its dedication to sustainable cuisine and promotion of local ingredients.

Besides announcing the starred restaurants, Michelin also revealed 58 Bib Gourmand restaurants recognized for offering "good quality food at affordable prices," along with 99 restaurants selected by Michelin (Michelin Selected).

The 2024 selection in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang encompasses seven culinary styles: Vietnamese, noodles, contemporary European, street food, vegetarian, Cantonese, and Latin American. This diversity highlights Vietnam's vibrant culinary scene, offering high-quality dishes at reasonable prices.

The Michelin Guide, founded in 1900 by brothers André and Édouard Michelin for automobile drivers, originally served as a practical guidebook with maps, repair tips, and lodging recommendations for travelers. Since 1926, it has become renowned for its critiques and ratings of restaurants worldwide, awarding stars based on cuisine quality, service, and ambiance.

In 2023, the Michelin Guide was launched for the first time in Vietnam, recommending 103 standard restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Among them, 4 received a Michelin star: Anan Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, Gia, Hibana by Koki, and Tam Vi in Hanoi. Additionally, 29 restaurants were awarded the Bib Gourmand for serving delicious food at affordable prices, and 70 were listed as recommendations.

The international director of the Michelin Guides added that the restaurants selected for the 2024 guide are "a message to gourmets, inviting them to discover the charm, quality, and endless variety of Vietnamese cuisine." Each of these restaurants offers authentic culinary experiences at attractive prices.
