The Michelin Guide, founded in 1900 by brothers André and Édouard Michelin for automobile drivers, originally served as a practical guidebook with maps, repair tips, and lodging recommendations for travelers. Since 1926, it has become renowned for its critiques and ratings of restaurants worldwide, awarding stars based on cuisine quality, service, and ambiance.
In 2023, the Michelin Guide was launched for the first time in Vietnam, recommending 103 standard restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Among them, 4 received a Michelin star: Anan Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, Gia, Hibana by Koki, and Tam Vi in Hanoi. Additionally, 29 restaurants were awarded the Bib Gourmand for serving delicious food at affordable prices, and 70 were listed as recommendations.
The international director of the Michelin Guides added that the restaurants selected for the 2024 guide are "a message to gourmets, inviting them to discover the charm, quality, and endless variety of Vietnamese cuisine."
