"Phở" now has its own museum in Vietnam, but what story does it tell?

As soon as you step through the door of the Pho Museum, located in the heart of the Bến Thành district in Ho Chi Minh City, one thing immediately strikes you: the smell. Cinnamon, star anise, hot broth… familiar scents that instantly awaken memories and stir the appetite.

    Good to know:

The Pho Museum is open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM, including during Tết (Vietnamese New Year).

    - Full experience ticket (tour + tasting + souvenir)
    750,000 VND / adult
    500,000 VND / child

    - Solo tour option available

    - You can also enjoy a bowl of pho without following the full tour, with prices ranging from 125,000 to 260,000 VND.

A museum to experience, not just to see!

The journey unfolds across multiple levels, blending cultural exhibits with a gastronomic experience.

On the upper floor, discover documentaries, art installations, and antiques that tell the story of pho’s evolution, from humble street vendors in the North to its status as a globally recognized culinary symbol.

Among the showcases, you can discover ancient pots, stone mortars, raw spices, as well as dictionary pages where the word "pho" first appeared. Over 200 items are displayed, accompanied by archives and documents tracing the diversity of pho across the three regions of Vietnam.

Some works surprise with their creativity: Lego installations, wool creations, and modern interpretations imagined by young artists, adding a contemporary and playful touch to the collection.

The most anticipated moment: the tasting!

After the visual tour, head back to the ground floor for the most sensory part of the experience.

In an immersive space, surrounded by large screens, visitors enjoy a bowl of pho in an enveloping, almost cinematic atmosphere. The kitchen is fully open, allowing guests to observe every step, from serving the broth to the final presentation. The team works with gloves and follows strict hygiene standards.

The museum's kitchen is designed with an open layout, allowing visitors to observe the entire preparation process, from serving the broth to the final presentation at the table. The staff always wear gloves to ensure optimal hygiene and food safety.

The bowl offered consists of rice noodles, rare beef, brisket, flank, tendon, and meatballs, accompanied by a small bowl of ribs, a generous version, true to the Southern style, currently showcased at the museum.

    A project born from passion

According to Mr. Lê Nhật Thanh, co-founder of the Pho Museum, the idea stemmed from a simple desire: to preserve and share the history of a dish everyone knows, but few can truly tell its story. Inspired by culinary museums around the world, the project took nearly two years to prepare, with over a year dedicated to collecting documents from the North to the South of Vietnam.

The Pho Museum offers a unique journey through the history and culture of Vietnam's iconic dish. With immersive exhibits and sensory experiences, it’s a must-visit for food lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
