All you have to do to get to this remarkable textile village is take a short drive from Udon Thani. It’s famous for producing textiles from silk and cotton using traditional weaving methods. These traditional weaving methods have been slowly dying out over the years, however, at Ban Na Kha Textile Village, visitors can view artisans working diligently, and educate themselves about old ways of making clothes.

One of the most amazing things about this part of Thailand is its diverse and long-lasting history, and that’s why it is also recommended to take an hour's drive to Phu Prabhat Historical Park. Practical tips for preparing your trip

  • Currency: The currency used in Thailand is the Thai Baht (THB). It is preferable to change your currency in advance or to withdraw on site via ATMs. Always prefer official exchange offices to street stands.
  • Language: The official language is Thai, but English is understood in tourist areas. Learning a few basic words in Thai is always appreciated by locals (hello = sawadee ka/krap, thank you = khop khun ka/krap).
  • Transport: Udon Thani has a public transport network including local buses and “songthaews” (vans converted into public transport). Taxis and tuk-tuks are easily accessible. For more autonomy, you can rent a car or scooter on site.
  • Safety: Thailand is generally a safe country and Udon Thani is a peaceful city. However, remain vigilant, like everywhere.
  • Health: No compulsory vaccination is required to visit Udon Thani but remember to get vaccinated against hepatitis A. Check that your current vaccinations are up to date. Protect yourself from mosquitoes (repellent, mosquito net) because the region can be affected by dengue fever. Avoid tap water.
  • Visas & other formalities: Find out on the official websites of the Thai government and your country of origin about visas and other administrative documents necessary for your trip.
