• Khao Soi

Khao Lam, which is a type of bamboo dessert, is made by putting some combination of glutinous rice, sugar, coconut cream and occasionally boiled black eyed beans into a tubular piece of bamboo. For fancier choices for the stuffing, taro or young coconut are sometimes added too. It is a popular dessert in the north as well as in the central plain of Isaan.

One of my favorite drinks is Northern Thai hot tea, or 'Cha Muang Nuea,' made from green or oolong tea harvested in the cooler, hilly regions of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and nearby areas ideal for tea cultivation.

More so, this region of Northern Thailand is also known for the famous Thai coffee (กาแฟไทย) especially the ones from the Doi Tung and Doi Chang coffee growing regions in Chiang Rai. These areas are known to grow the best Arabica coffee beans and local small restaurants offer them. While Northern Thai coffee can be made the old way or the new way, each way has its own thick and yummy taste because of the climates and agricultural practices of the region.
