Conflict at the Thailand & Cambodia Border: Tourism Remains Stable Outside Restricted Areas

In recent days, rising tensions at the Thailand & Cambodia border have led Thai authorities to temporarily close several border checkpoints and suspend tourism activities in certain border provinces. However, domestic tourism in both Thailand and Cambodia continues as normal, with no impact on major destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Siem Reap, or Phnom Penh.

Tourism Suspended in Thailand & Cambodia Border Areas

On July 24, explosions and sporadic clashes along the Thailand–Cambodia border led Thai authorities to temporarily close border checkpoints and suspend tourism activities in nearby provinces such as Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Sisaket, and Buriram. Popular tourist sites near the border, including the Ta Moan, Ta Kwai, Chong Bok, and Chong An Ma temples, have also been closed to ensure visitor safety.

These measures apply only to the immediate border region and do not affect major tourist destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi, or Hua Hin.

Tourism Authority of Thailand: “Travel remains safe”

On July 25, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) issued a statement to reassure travelers:

“The safety of tourists is our top priority. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working in coordination with local agencies to ensure tourism activities continue safely and smoothly.”

TAT also recommends that travelers stay informed through official updates and contact the following services if needed:

Tours in Thailand Continue as Usual

Many tour operators in Thailand and Vietnam have confirmed that travel within Thailand remains uninterrupted, especially in safe areas. Tourist attractions, shopping malls, and night markets in Bangkok are still lively and fully operational.
